Welcome! I’m the author of two books. My first was the memoir-with-recipes The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry, (Viking/Penguin 2007) a real-life story of leaving corporate life to cash in my life savings to study at the Le Cordon Bleu in Paris — where I fell in love with my husband, whom many refer to as The Mike. My second book is The Kitchen Counter Cooking School, which was just awarded best non-fiction book in the memoir/autobiography category from the American Society of Journalists & Authors.

I also serve on the board of directors for the International Association of Culinary Professionals. Follow what I’m up to now via my blog and Twitter. I’m at work on another memoir, a collection of true-life stories and a work of fiction that’s partially a roman a clef of my five years living in London.

I’ve teamed up with Rouxbe.com and curated a series of online lessons that work along with The Kitchen Counter Cooking School. You can try one lesson for free — knife skills — arguably the most essential skill for any home cook to master. From there, you can try a lesson at a time or take the the full “class” offered as a companion for the book. Learn more here.

I’m passionate about home cooking. I believe that everyone has it in them to learn to cook, in doing so save time, spend less, nourish yourself and your family, and gain confidence not only in the kitchen, but in yourself.
