The good folks over at Leite’s Culinaria selected The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry as one of the 20 best food books of 2007. This is a special honor because they take their annual list seriously, and endeavor to develop a list they deem truly noteworthy.
It’s amazing to be in the kind of company found on their list, which includes Jacques Pepin, Judith Jones, Anne Willan, Clotilde Dusoulier, Alice Waters and more. Their book of the year is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver and I concur. She’s been one of my favorite writers for ages. In her elegant prose, she writes about her attempts to eat locally, and to eat in a way that’s wise for the earth. It’s a book that made me think the most about what I eat, why and where it comes from, and I recommend it.
