Washington State Book Awards

Always a bridesmaid… coming home to Seattle this morning, I learned that The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry was named a finalist in the general non-fiction category for the Washington State Book Awards. Like the Oscars, it really is an honor to be nominated. The winner in the non-fiction category was David R. Montgomery, a University of Washington professor of geomorphology who was named one of 25 winners of a “genius grant” from the MacArthur Foundation this week. He won the award for his book, “Dirt: The Erosion of Civilizations.” If the award has to go to someone else, it’s nice that he’s a genius.

The rest of the winners and finalists are listed in this Seattle Post-Intelligencer story. And now, I’m off to go write in the Writer’s Room at the library…
